Using a MIDI sustain pedal for recording?

I'm trying to map the sustain pedal from my midi keyboard to start/stop recordings instead of having to press R so I can keep both my hands free when looping.
But I can't seem to get SooperLooper to assign the recording function to the sustain pedal is there any way to fix this?
