A couple of questions

Post by andrewpiano »

Hi, I'm a new user and I am really excited about the possibilities with SooperLooper. Fantastic! I just have a couple of questions that I couldn't figure out from the manual or forums:
- What is the "Round" function. What exactly does it do?
- What is the play-feedback option
- Also, I'm not sure I understand the auto 8th or mute quantize functions...

One last thing, the delay doesn't record as a loop, correct? It's like a separate function that one can experiment with...?

Thanks for any clarification!

The round function affects how a record, multiply, or insert operation ends when it is synced and quantized. When round is on, it keeps recording your input until the next quantize boundary after you finish the operation.

Play-feedback makes it so the loop fades out according the feedback control even when the loop is in normal playback. Ordinarily it only has an effect during an overdub/substitute, etc operation.

Auto 8th makes SL hazard a guess as to your target tempo, and then based on the loop length automatically sets the # 8ths per cycle appropriately, usually to a bar boundary. This makes further quantized operations make more sense, by not making you set the 8ths/per cycle manually.

Mute quantize (and overdub and replace quantize) just enable them to follow the sync/quantize rules as well (normally they would go into effect immediately).

Yes, the delay mode is independent of everything else, serving as a basic tap-tempo controlled delay effect with feedback. To get out of it, just undo, mute, or start a new record.

Thanks Jesse! I think I'm starting to get it now. It's a different way of working from the traditional audio workstation--Pro Tools et al. SooperLooper seems simple at first glance but there's a lot to it. Really enjoying it. Awesome contribution to musicians...

By the way, when sync mode is internal, then cycle and loop quantize do not work right? I gather the cycle/loop quantize work in relation to a loop sync?

Please could round mode be documented? It's also missing a tooltip. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but having to wade through the forums to find answers to how stuff works makes SL a lot harder to use!
