No response from SooperLooper engine process. Please make su

Post by lopis »

hi, i've ubuntu 10.10 maverick. i've always used SL with jack and other software like ardour, hydrogen... until 2 days ago when launching SL i got this reply:

No response from SooperLooper engine process.
Please make sure the JACK server is running.
Also check that the system's hostname resolves properly.

Obviously jack is running. can anyone help me?
thanks

It is likely that something changed in your networking system. Try running sooperlooper, then slgui, both started from separate terminals and look at their output, and post it here. It is likely that the hostname it is reporting as itself doesn't actually resolve. Oftentimes, putting it in the /etc/hosts file can fix that issue, but it is usually the result of something being misconfigured.

hi thank you very much.
FIRST OF ALL: I FOLLOW YOUR SUGGESTION AND WHEN I RUN SLGUI AFTER SOOPERLOOPER THE SOFTWARE OPENED REGULARLY. THEN I CLOSED BOTH, I RETRIED TO OPEN SOOPERLOOPER AND THEN SLGUI AND IT GAVE ME THE PROBLEM MESSAGE.

ANYWAY THAT'S THE TERMINAL MESSAGE WHEN I OPENED "sooperlooper" THE FIRST TIME:

Actually, what I would like to see is the output when it does *not* open regularly.

Also, it looks like you had not started JACK before you first ran sooperlooper, hence all the print-outs from JACK which just got in the way. Next time, be sure to start JACK using qjackctl or however you usually do it first. Then the output from the terminals will be much less.

Can you 'ping -c 4 luca-laptop' successfully? If so, you don't need to put anything in your /etc/hosts file.

i'm not sure to understand what that means... however i paste it i the terminal and that's the reply:

is it ok?

and this is for "slgui":

luca@luca-laptop:~$ slgui
slgui: our URL is osc.udp://luca-laptop:13854/
slgui: remote looper is at osc.udp://luca-laptop:9951/ version=1.6.14 loopcount=1 id=1302006656

after "slgui" sooper started regularly, how come?

thanks

OK, now kill both sooperlooper and slgui, and attempt to start slgui only. It should start its own engine in the background and is the normal way to start it. Let me know how that works now.

hi jesse,
i practiced your advice but doesn't work: after killing sooperlooper and slgui i restarted slgui and i get the same old message:

No response from SooperLooper engine process.
Please make sure the JACK server is running.
Also check that the system's hostname resolves properly.

the program now works just if i open it from terminal with "slgui" after opening it with "sooperlooper"
how come?
do you think i should use it this way?

thanks

Please post the complete *terminal* output from running only slgui... that's what I need to determine the problem.

that's the output:

luca@luca-laptop:~$ slgui
slgui: our URL is osc.udp://luca-laptop:18008/
execing: 'sooperlooper -q -U osc.udp://luca-laptop:18008/ -p 9951 -l 1 -c 2 -t 46 -m "/home/luca/.sooperlooper/default_midi.slb"'

slgui: spawned new engine
slgui: gave up on spawned engine

thank you

I sure would like to know the outcome of this string as I am fairly certain that I am cursed with the same problem. Are you guys still alive?

Have you tried the most recent version, 1.6.18? I might have solved some of the connection issues in that version.

Hi I'm experiencing the same problem with sooperlooper-1.6.18. I can start sooperlooper and slgui separately which is OK, but if I run slgui alone it fails to find the sooperlooper engine it spawns it self.

When I first turned on my laptop this morning from suspend, running slgui alone worked correctly, but from then on the problem has been present.

processes running after slgui fails to find engine

Does this problem presist alasdairc? Looks a bit like you had a zombie process, maybe due to the suspend.
